Everlusting Life review: auto-chess, not the card game the store page implies

The verdict

Call it what it is: Everlusting Life is auto-chess. The publisher says so in its own first sentence, even though the store files it under Card Battle RPG, and the difference matters — you are placing units on a board and letting rounds resolve, not building a deck.

That makes it a good entry point if you have bounced off this catalogue before. Auto-chess rewards understanding how a board composition beats another board composition, and that knowledge is cheaper to acquire than a roster is to buy.

The July 2025 release date is the other reason to look. It is one of the newest games here, so the gap between a fresh account and an established one is measured in months rather than the six or seven years you face in the 2018-era titles.

Skip it if you want to make decisions during a fight. You do not. Everything happens in the planning phase, and the combat itself is a spectator event — which is either restful or pointless depending on your temperament.

How Everlusting Life actually plays

You assemble a squad and place it, then rounds resolve automatically according to positioning, unit abilities and the order things trigger in. Between rounds you adjust: swap a unit, change a position, upgrade what is working. That planning phase is the entire game, and it is a genuinely different skill from deck-building.

Positioning carries real weight. A unit that survives an extra round because it sits behind a tank contributes far more than a stronger unit that dies first, so the board is a puzzle about survival order rather than a sum of statistics. The Tactical and Strategy tags are earned here rather than decorative.

Progression runs through character evolution and collection. Units level, evolve and take upgrades, which means investing in a small set produces a stronger board than spreading across a large roster. That is friendlier to free play than rarity-driven systems.

There is a character creator attached, so appearance customisation sits alongside the roster rather than being sold separately.

PvP is present. In auto-chess formats the ladder tends to reward knowledge more than most genres, because a well-positioned cheap board genuinely beats a badly positioned expensive one — though breadth still decides the top of it.

What the free version really gets you

Everlusting Life is free to play, with premium currency for unit pulls and an energy system limiting campaign runs per session.

Being new works in a free player's favour twice over. The power ceiling has not drifted as far out of reach as in the older titles, and the format itself dampens spending advantage — auto-chess outcomes hinge on composition and positioning, so understanding the board substitutes for owning more of it up to a point.

That point is roster breadth. When you meet a composition your units cannot answer, no amount of repositioning fixes it, and breadth is exactly what money buys. In the campaign that costs time; in PvP it costs the match.

So: pay-to-accelerate through single-player content, pay-to-win at the top of the ladder, and unusually skill-responsive in the middle band where most players actually live.

The energy cap is the daily limiter rather than a paywall — a free session ends when stamina runs out, typically after fifteen or twenty minutes, and resumes later. No pull rates are published anywhere we could find, so treat a purchase as one transaction with no stated odds behind it.

Questions people actually ask

Is Everlusting Life a card game or auto-chess?

Auto-chess. The publisher describes it as a classic auto-chess game in its own first line, even though the store genre reads Card Battle RPG. You place units on a board rather than building and playing a deck.

Is Everlusting Life pay to win?

At the top of the PvP ladder, yes — roster breadth decides matches you cannot answer by repositioning. Below that it is unusually skill-responsive, because a well-placed cheap board beats a badly-placed expensive one.

Is Everlusting Life good for new players?

One of the better options here. It launched in July 2025, so established accounts have had months rather than years to compound their advantage, and the format rewards knowledge over collection size.

Do you control the fights in Everlusting Life?

No. Combat resolves automatically once a round starts. Every decision happens beforehand — which units to field, where to place them, and what to upgrade. If you want moment-to-moment input, this is the wrong genre.

Does Everlusting Life have an energy system?

Yes. Campaign runs consume energy that refills over real time, so free sessions are bounded rather than blocked — typically fifteen to twenty minutes before you are waiting.

Can you play Everlusting Life on mobile?

Yes. There is a 64-bit Android build alongside the browser version, and the planning-phase pace suits touch input well since nothing is time-critical during a fight.
